Google Scholar provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature. From one place, you can search across many disciplines and sources: articles, theses, books, abstracts and court opinions from academic publishers, professional societies, online repositories, universities and other websites.

Google Scholar's citation tracking tools are basic compared to CDU Library Search and the other citation tracking tools in this guide.

Google Scholar only has an option for 'Cited by' or forward snowballing citation tracking and a 'Related Articles' filter.

However, citations do play a role in Google Scholar search metrics. Due to ranking algorithim's, the number of times an article is cited affects a resource's 'relevance'. The more often a resource is cited, the higher it is likely to rise in the results displayed.
