Reading List Guide: Add prescribed texts

Prescribed and Recommended Texts in Reading List

This page will provide you with guidance on how to add Prescribed texts and Recommended texts to your Reading List, to ensure that CDU Library and the CDU Bookshop will have these resources available for your students.

Your students will be able to see the Reading List once they have enrolled into the unit and it is a way for them to discover if the unit has a prescribed text before the start of the semester.

1) If your unit has a prescribed text:

  • Set up sections in your Reading List, following the structure of your unit content (weeks, modules, topics, ...).
  • Add the prescribed text to the Prescribed texts  section

Please do not edit the title of the Prescribed texts section. We use the section name to report on prescribed texts.

.

2) If your unit does not have a prescribed text:

  • Do not delete the section Prescribed texts
    • Edit the section and add: There is no prescribed text for this unit into the description
    • As soon as a student is enrolled in your unit, they will be able to access the Reading List via the student portal, even when the unit is not accessible yet. They will be able to see if there is a prescribed text or not.
