Reading List Guide: Request resource

Getting a print book chapter digitised

If you would like to complete a digitisation request for a book chapter (if we only have a print copy of the book), first add the book to the Reading List (see Add Library resources). Then follow the steps below.

1) Hover over the resource that you need a chapter digitised for.

  • Click on the three dots in line with the book title.
  • Select Edit item.

2) To request the digitisation of a specific book chapter, change the Type to Book Chapter.

Then add as many details as possible for the chapter:

  • Chapter title
  • Chapter author (if applicable)
  • Chapter number
  • Start Page
  • End Page

Adding these details will support the digitisation process and ensures the library digitises the correct item.

Once you have added all the information necessary, click Save.

3) You will see that now the resource shows as a book chapter in your Reading List.

4) Select the resource by clicking on it.

Then click on Request digitization.

5) In the form that pops up, add the Chapter (again). Page numbers will have auto filled.

Then click on Send, which will send your digitisation request automatically to the library.

Requesting a resource to be purchased (adding a resource the library doesn't have)

If the library does not have a resource you would like to use, submit a purchase request by following the steps below.

1) Add the resource you would like the library to purchase by either using Cite it! or Manual entry (if Cite it! does not work).

2) Once the resource has been added to your Reading List, click on the resource.

Then click on Add tag

3) Select the Purchase Me tag and select Save.

4) In your Reading List the resource will show like this.

The library will get in touch if there are any issues purchasing this resource.

The library has an eBook first policy and will aim to get an eBook with an unlimited licence. If we can't get an unlimited licence, we will consider the number of students in your unit and get the appropriate number of licences.

The library will automatically adjust the reading details based on the resource purchased.
