Measuring Research Impact: What is my research doing?

In this guide you will gain a basic understanding of how to measure your research impact.

Introduction

Now that you've published and are promoting your work, you need to find out how it's going. You can do this for a number of reasons such as:

  • to support applications for grant funding

  • to support applications for promotion

  • by a researcher to maintain their own research profile

  • For National Assessment exercises such as the ERA

  • Or you just want to know

Metrics also help for when you want to:

  • Assess the impact of your research
  • Increase your research readership, citation count and influence
  • Increase the influence of your academic institution

The Library can provide you with data and advice, so you can confidently use appropriate metrics to showcase your research and academic impact.
