Promoting Your Research : Using Social Media

Using Social Media

With social media playing a large role in our lives, it is imperative that we use it to promote our work. One of the benefits of social media, is that it has a wide variety of audiences and an even a wider reach. You can write a post and aim it at any audience you want. Mentions of your research will increase your Altmetrics. As long as you use a DOI, your metrics will be measured.

Social Media for Research

Twitter is by far one the most popular and effective ways to promote your research. Each retweet can be counted towards your Altmetric.

Sharing on Facebook is another good option because of the diversity of Facebook groups and subject specific pages. It’s a good way to promote your work to an even broader audience.

While this platform is very unregulated, Reddit allows you to start threads and discussions about your work. As long as you use a DOI, your mentions will be measured via Altmetric.
