Finding Sources: CDU Research Assistant

How to find credible sources your lecturer will love!

Important information before you use the Research Assistant

This tool is not perfect. While it can help you quickly explore topics, the answers may not always be accurate or comprehensive. Always verify the information using the original sources.
Check with your lecturer first. Not all assignments or units allow the use of AI tools; make sure you have permission before using any AI tools.
If you're doing formal research. Consider whether your work needs to be reproducible and whether your target journal/publisher permits the use of AI-assisted tools.
Use the tool responsibly. The CDU Primo Research Assistant is a helpful starting point, but it’s not a substitute for critical thinking, proper referencing, or your own hard work.

Navigating the Research Assistant

The CDU Research Assistant can be found in the top menu bar of Library Search. To begin, click to open the tool.

1) A history of all the searches you have run before.

2) The main text box where you can ask your query.

3) An about section - please read this before using the tool.

Pros Cons

Natural language - ask questions as you would in conversation.

Saves time - helps summarise some of the key points in sources.

Provides sources - shows you where the info came from so you can read further.

Suggests related questions - gives you ideas for further exploration on the topic.

Further searches - you can run a related search in the base CDU Library Search to find more info.

Answers aren't perfect - sometimes the tool will provide inaccurate, off-topic, or out-of-date info.

Can't answer previous queries - meaning you can't ask clarifying or follow-up questions.

Only uses five sources - the summary information it provides is based on only five sources.

Needs well-structured queries - otherwise the tool struggles to understand what you are looking for.

Only a tool - it can be used to improve workflows, but you still need to think critically and check sources
