Strategic Publishing : Open Access Agreements

Open Access Agreements address the increased commitment from universities, governments and research institutions to publish Open Access. The Council of Australian University Libraries (CAUL) negotiate with publisher to allow Libraries to support researchers to publish open access with little barriers. This includes forgoing embargo periods and article processing charges (APCs).

We have agreements with: 

• American Psychological Association (APA)
• Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)
• Cambridge University Press
• CSIRO Publishing
• Elsevier
• Oxford University Press
• SAGE
• Springer Nature
• Taylor & Francis
• Wiley and Hindawi

1. Select a publisher from the list above
2. Browse available journals and choose one to submit to
3. Read the relevant terms and conditions
4. Submit to the journal using your CDU/Menzies email address and CDU/Menzies as your byline/affiliation
5. Your article progresses through the usual publication process, including peer review
6. You will be notified that your article has been accepted
7. Select option to publish OA with no APCs
8. Article is published direct to OA

Corresponding authors from institutions listed under 'Participating institutions' may publish immediately to open access on the publisher's platform once the article has been accepted, with no transactional APCs.

However, Wiley, Springer Nature and Oxford University Press require authors to:

• select a participating institution as their affiliation in the publisher system
• use an institutional email address when submitting their article.

Responsible corresponding authors should not use personal email addresses (e.g. Hotmail, Gmail). Doing so may result in delayed approval of the article or the article may not be approved to be published open access under the terms of the agreement.
