QR codes are two dimensional barcodes that contain infomation such as web links, text or contact information. QR stands for "Quick Response".
With a smartphone (eg. iPhone or Android phone) and a free easy-to-install QR code reader, it only takes a quick snap with the camera on your smartphone to instantly take you to the information revealed by the code.
QR codes are a fast way of connecting the physical world to the online world. For example, a movie poster might have a QR code on it that links to a movie trailer. When you scan it with your smartphone, you can watch it right then and there - and without having to type in a long URL!
The QR code below is one that we made to point to the Library Treasure Hunt LibGuide. We'll be wearing it on t-shirts and displaying it on posters around CDU. Scanning the QR code will take you directly to the Treasure Hunt :)
If you have a smartphone, we encourage you to try the QR
code version of our Library Treasure Hunt, whether you're on campus or online
at home. Whenever you see a QR code, scan it using your smartphone to
get the information about your secret words and the next clue! Give it a shot!
Your smartphone may already have a QR code reader (or barcode reader) installed. If it doesn't, you'll need to install one in order to participate in the QR code version of the library treasure hunt.
It's easy and quick - just grab a free QR code reader app with the help of these websites!
If you don't have a smartphone, you can use your computer or laptop to scan QR codes using a software application.
If the QR code is on your computer screen (like the one near the top of this page), you simply position the reader software over it to scan it. You can even use your webcam to scan printed QR codes!
Scan this QR code with your mobile phone to go straight to the CDU Library mobile website!

We're investigating all kinds of ways that we can use QR codes at CDU Library to help you find the information you need, where and when you need it!
QR codes on the book shelves will link to relevant online resources, such as the LibGuide for a particular subject.
QR codes in the print/photocopy room will link to short videos that show you how to add money to your account, how to use the print stations, and how to use the photocopiers.
So - when you see a QR code in the library, scan it using the QR code reader on your smartphone to locate useful information right where you need it!
P.S. Don't forget to connect to the CDU wireless network with your phone for free access to the internet while you're on campus. You can find out how HERE.
