eBooks Guide: Troubleshooting

Guide to finding and using eBooks at CDU Library

Downloading Ebooks with Adobe Digital Editions

To download eBooks from many providers you need to download Adobe Digital Editions (ADE).  You can download the latest version from here. You will need to create a free Adobe ID.

Issues with Adobe Digital Editions

I cannot install ADE

Try using another browser.  Check out the help pages at: https://helpx.adobe.com/digital-editions/kb/cant-install-digital-editions.html

I get an error message:  “Activation Server Error” or “Connection Error”

This means that ADE could not connect to the server from which it was supposed to retrieve authentication information. Confirm that you are connected to the network (for example, open your browser and try to navigate to a web site). Typically, retrying resolves this problem

My book is not in my ADE library

Look in your 'downloads' folder.  Move the .acsm file into ADE application (in your c drive/program files/adobe).  Also select the program that you want to use to open these types of files.

In some cases, a book may become corrupted or inadvertently deleted. Or, ADE may report it is unable to find lending information. Simply go back to the library website, re-download the book, and re-open it in ADE

My book is formatted incorrectly

Documents may produce minor errors or warnings if a PDF file uses features not supported by ADE (for example, JPEG 2000 compression), or an EPUB document uses markup that is not recommended. In most cases, these minor warnings and errors do not produce any visible problems, but the book may not be rendered exactly as the author intended
