Knowing that there are many different types of resources are important, this is because different resources may have different quality of information and because you will need to be able to identify a source type to cite it correctly.

In this activity you will need to identify four mystery items. Click on the link below to access each item then mark in your workbooket what resource type you think the item is.

Using Boolean searching can help you conduct research on library databases, Summon and Google. Before you start a search think about what keywords or search terms describe the information you are looking for. Think about the main ideas and what your assignment question is asking you to do.

For this activity, you'll be working in small groups to conduct a search in one of the following databases.

You are to search for articles or other relevant resources about breastfeeding AND low birth weight. You may need to try variations on the search terms (eg. breastfeeding, breast feeding, lactation) and specific phrases (eg. "low birth weight").

Note the kinds of resources held in the database, as well as any unique or helpful features for searching or browsing the database content, so that you can report back to the class.

Not all information has been created equal. As midwifery students you will be the judge of what is good information. Remember that information comes in different sources including peer reviewed research, consumer information, case studies and opinion pieces.

In this example you have been asked to find information on patient confidentiality. Choose one of the items below and evaluate the material.
