Resources for Academics Guide: Adding Readings to Learnline

This guide has been created to assist academics to access electronic material and add these links to Learnline units

Making your reading links user-friendly

For online resources such as electronic journal articles or eBooks available via the Library website it is best practice to include a direct link to the resource in your Learnline unit.

If your resource is in hard copy or not available via CDU Library go to the eReadings and eSpace tab for further information.

It is important to create a user-friendly link, (called a permalink) using the EZproxy Generator which ensures that the link opens in a new window in Learnline and is accessible for all external students. Read more about permalinks

Many journals now also provide a DOI (Digital Object Identifier). This will take you directly to the article, as does a permalink.

If the article is freely available via Google Scholar or an online site then it doesn't need an EZproxy address.

Steps to creating your user friendly link:

  • Search for the required reading via Library Search or subject specific databases
  • If permalink is available check it has an EZproxy address at the start ie:
  • Add the direct link into your Learnline module ensuring you select  'open in new window'. The clip in the box on the right will demonstrate how to create a user - friendly link or watch this short video

Using the EZproxy Link Generator

If the permalink to an electronic resource doesn't have at the beginning of the URL, it needs to be run through CDU Library's EZproxy link generator. Cut and paste the link into the first box, then click on the Create Link button.

When you see this pop-up box, click OK to create the link.

The resulting link that appears in the second box is ready to use in your Learnline unit now.
